But see how conditions are tricky thing, try to make 100 km on foot instead of bike on just one burek (meet pie) radmasa.gif

And in my Logan, i can make a 1000 km on just one burek! radmasa.gif

Now all around the internet, on all car forums, you will be quoted instead of me. So ask Dr. Heinz who is going to visit you this weekend...

There is a Burekdzijada (burek fair) tonight... wink.gif including the contest for the best burek! wink.gif No efficiency contest will be held, though... radmasa.gif

Heinz, tonight is just the opening, you don't really think such a fair could last for only one night wink.gif

And FYI tonight is also the opening of the Vine fair in Vlasotince, too bad it is not in the same place... wink.gif

so exactly WHERE is that burek festival? at your home?

can we get loganovac to come there? you saw his answer. for a free
burek he will go anywhere, adding a few punds of foot pressure, and
specially since he drives a car without hardly any fuel consumption.

greetings - heinz -

hey, i am not from serbia, and my wife is a real burek-lover too!

you also should give loganovac a chance: even though he is from serbia,
anyone that does not know and does not admit that LPG usage is 30%+/-
over gasoline, also cannot know where the burek fair is.

so where is it?

I dont know where it is
BUT
Here is the recepie for it .Mmmmm I may even try it Make a change from fish and chips radmasa.gif

Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 medium yellow onion, peeled and chopped
1 pound ground beef
1 teaspoon allspice
2 teaspoons Hungarian paprika
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 box phyllo pastry sheet (12 inches x 17 inches)
3/4 cup butter, melted
Preparation:
Heat a large frying pan and add the oil. Saute the onion until soft, and then add the ground beef, allspice, paprika, salt, and pepper to taste. Cook until the meat is crumbly but not dry. Cool completely before you continue.

Lay 1 sheet of phyllo dough on the counter. Brush with some of the butter. Place a heaping 1/3 cup of meat mixture acrosss the sheet along the long side, 2 inches from edge. Fold the bottom over the meat mixture and roll into a snake shape. Cut the roll in half and coil each roll into a snail shape. Place on a nonstick baking sheet and butt the end up against the edge of the pan to prevent uncoiling. Brush with additional butter.

Bake in a preheated oven at 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until just golden.

Keep the remaining sheets of phyllo dough covered with plastic, and work quickly to prevent in from drying out.

Hint on handling phyllo dough: Be sure the dough is at room temperature before you open the box. Place the sheets of dough on a large cookie sheet and cover them with plastic wrap and then a heavy towel. In this way, they will not dry out while you are working with them. Work fast for best results and do not have the butter too hot when brushing the dough.

Yield: 18 to 20

what the heck is phyllo dough? sounds almost indecent. and if you used all
those 'foreign' ingredients trying to make serbian burek's, you would only
achieve two thing: ( a ) it wouldnt taste anything like a burek, and ( b ) you
would get kicked out of serbia. rightfully so ...

Dear Heinz, here is my humble contribution to your overwhelming knowledge.

Börek originated in Turkish cuisine (cf. Baklava) and is one of its most significant and, in fact, ancient elements, having been developed by the Turks of Central Asia before their westward migration to Anatolia. Börek in Turkish refers to any dish made with "yufka", the Turkish word for phyllo pastry.

In Serbia and Macedonia, burek is made from layers of thick dough, alternating with layers of other fillings in a circular baking pan and topped with a layer of dough. Traditional fillings are stewed ground meat, cheese, apple, sour cherry, mushrooms, and a modern variant, "pizza" burek. Prazan burek ("empty burek", i.e. without filling) is also made.

The recipe for modern "round" burek was developed in the Serbian town Nič, where it was introduced by a famous Turkish baker, Mehmed Oglu, from Istanbul in 1498.

So, Heinz, now we can conclude what Stu's phyllo pastry is. The recipe is definitely not for a "Serbian" burek (if any), but it sounds very tasty.

P.S. We are not off topic, because we already proved the importance of a foot weight to an average fuel consumption, so burek has a lot to do with it.

@Stu
Do you drive your Logan wearing THOSE boots? biggrin.gif You need no burek for heavy feet! biggrin.gif

@Loganovac
Instead of copy/paste you'd better just put a link to the article wink.gif You are not the only one who can google! biggrin.gif

An important corollary: There IS a Serbian variant of burek "The recipe for modern "round" burek was developed in the Serbian town Nič", never mind that it was invented by a Turkish baker. wink.gif Even the author of our national anthem is not Serbian... biggrin.gif

@g100sic
Why are you getting so upset about copying the most relevant part of the article instead of putting a link to the whole one? I thought it is easier that way, and also I did not sign that text. Notice the sentence "So, Heinz, now we can conclude what Stu's phyllo pastry is." It implies the above quotation.
I can not believe that some people on this forum are so anxious to argue about totally unimportant things. Maybe you are not happy for your burek secret been revealed...

P.S. And, furthermore, you had not discussed the very essential of the facts posted, but just the way they are posted... I'd like you to be more creative and far less destructive in your posts.

Loganovac, I told you once you were square... Now, you can be round on the outside all you like (or don't), but on the "inside" you are still square! wink.gif

Lighten up a bit, you started a flame, now you don't let us even turn it into fun! biggrin.gif

Now something serious from me for a change... biggrin.gif

When you use somebody else's contribution, like for instance that article you used, it is an elementary thing to give him/her a credit by quoting the text and mentioning the author, however insignificant he/she may be. The shorthand for that is to simply put a link to the text (blessed the hypertext biggrin.gif)!

As for my burek secret, I hereby declare that I don't have any (secret, that is), I couldn't even make one, even with Stu's or Mohamed Oglu's recipe... radmasa.gif

But I can make scrambled eggs in many variants, and also a very good kachamak (corn palenta)! radmasa.gif Makes very good fuel for body (and soul) for applying pressure on the gass pedal for us with light feet! radmasa.gif

PS
I don't want to change my permanent signature, but here is a temporary one:
Cooooooooooooooooooool man! biggrin.gif

It's a shame that such a burek expert misses tha name of the original Serbian burek designer and founder - once again, it's Mehmed, not Mohamed, dear. And you were complaining of a Serbian not knowing where the burek fair was to take place!

I don't think that I am the one who started the flame. May be so...

The unquoted text was taken from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, and was unsigned there anyway. At no time was my intention to take any credits for it.

You are right, sometimes I am square inside. showfinger.gif
