Guys, there are fewer and fewer pure national cars. Soon, only the brands' origins will be undisputably traceable to a country. With all the acquisitions and mergers happening we are starting to get the same platform from several brands - just think about Sharan, Galaxy and Alhambra. This phenomena will probably sweep over the jap car industry too, for it's very hard to compete against the cheaper multi-faced global standard.
In the distant future, we'll probably get to choose only the colour and the size of the car. That'd suck a lot.

I don't see the "Romanian" option in the poll. smile.gif

Some years ago, I had to do with an old, wise guy, already retired, who was working for BMW, as leader of all sales in the region. As I've heared about his formar job, I was wondering myself, why he was driving a Fiat Seicento and his wife a Corsa 1,4i, so I've asked him, what was the reason not drive any of those cars, he was squeezing his salesguys and-girls to place more of them on the roads - certainly he could have had the opportunity to purchase them for totally unimaginable conditions for all others of us. He replied: none of those cars would be worth their prices, because of the bad realtion between price and value... This one from an earlier salesman... However, having more than 23 cars in the past 24 years, I can confirm, maybe earlier swedish cars were not that nice and "must-have-appeal", but they were the longer lasting ever. Mercedes, BMW does not have the quality they were wellknown about. For more than 14 monthes I was driving a brand new W212 220CDI, running almost 20000mls. For a car, that charges with more than 53'EUR a totally shame of small troubles giving a bitter taste of got kicked in a... for the money you've invested into image... Injectors down, Air-Intake broken, heavily dirty sidewindows after few mls of driving in mud and snow, left mirror heated, but the right one not. Why? The 22 year old Volvo760GLE had both mirrors heated simultanously with the rear window or alternatively with the driver seat - those guys have had an idea about weather conditions, while the driver switched his seatheating, he also might have needed defrosted mirrors... Somehow logical. My best cars were Saab900, Volvo 760GLE, Peugeot Partner, Peugeot 106, Ford Escort. Lots of trouble with Mercedes W203CL, W212, Peugeot 406Coupe, Ford ScorpioII, Austin-Mini. All others were serving with no major troubles. I have turned my demands down, first priority: well working systems, that means less electrical gimmicks, regardless to age, type or elsewhat. Therefor: Renault12, early 70s. I would not buy ever again a brand new car of brand new production...

Mefisto,

I agree, reliability plays a major role for most conscious consumers (including myself), however some people tend to put pleasure above reason, like with everything else in life, and I don't blame them. They want nice looking cars with good performance, as many triple-letter systems as possible, leather seats, good sound system and all comfort extras, even if it stresses them financially. Well, it's good to have some variety, isn't it?

I find it a bit odd however that we always have to move 1-2 tons beasts of metal just to carry our fable bodies of only 80 kilos in average. It's a waste. And it's also a waste when such cars do not last more than 10 years or so before they go to scrap.

PS
- I voted for the Japanese cars (Honda, Toyota), though I have a Skoda biggrin.gif
- I've also had a Dacia long ago, and I really miss the times when I was repairing and improving it, trying to make it more reliable. rolleyes.gif
