Hi ! Just wanted to know your opinion about AC in your Logans - if it works fine, if you think you need it or if you think you can live OK without it. I read somewhere that the normal heating installation was supposed to be good enough for so different countries like Russia or Mexico -i.e: it should warm and cool efficiently without the need for AC unsure.gif

What are your experiences so far ?

The AC on Logan is good and efficient. If you live in a hot climate (like yours in Spain) you will be sorry later if you're gonna be cheap on acquisition and you'll buy a car without AC.

While the normal heating installation is good enough for heating the car interior in the cold climate, knowing it's working principles (it uses heat from the cooling system of the engine), there is no magic that can lower the temperature inside the cabin under the temperature of the outside air, in fact, it can only be higher, unless you have an AC!

So, while the AC is really not needed for heating, it is indispensable for cooling! But, nevertheless, it is designed for both functions. And it performs them both, from my experience. On a cold day with cold engine start, I noticed significantly faster heating with the AC on. There is no real need for cooling yet, but I tried it anyway, and sure enough, it worked... biggrin.gif

What I also noticed about the AC, is that is loud. Not irritatingly loud, to be fair, but you will definitely hear when it's working. There have been posts here that it can go even to an irritating level on a very hot day. Why is that so, and why can't be different, I would like to hear from an expert.

One should notice that Logan is equipped with a manual AC. That is, it cannot maintain the preset temperature, but it just runs at certain cooling ratio, so to speak, as determined by the dial on the console. That means, if you set it to position X, it maintains the ratio of X between external and internal temperature, and if the outside temperature drops, you should manually decrease the ratio if you don't want to freeze wink.gif biggrin.gif.

So c'mon fellow engineers, it would be an interesting homework to design some simple circuitry to convert this manual AC into an automatic one (possibly using only parts from flee market biggrin.gif)?! wink.gif

Thanks ! Dacia AC costs 780 € in Spain, which is not a bad price compared to the 900-1100 € in any other carmaker, included Renault, but still 780 € sad.gif

I'm asking because I don't live in the south, where you get temperatures over 35 from June to September easily, but in the north, whose climate is more like in France ( maybe a bit warmer ) and besides I'm not an AC-fan because it makes me cough quite a lot. That's the reason for asking smile.gif

As for the money worthiness, it all comes down to how tolerant are you to the heat, but most of all, how tolerant is your wife! wink.gif radmasa.gif

And worth mentioning also... the fuel consumption is higher with the side windows open than with AC on (the Dacia Logan user manual states this too, and is confirmed by some independent parties, "The MythBusters" for example radmasa.gif)! smile.gif

Hi all,
I live so far in North as in Estonia, and AC still pays. We, too, have 35 centigrades in summer sometimes. But AC has its advantages around the year. You can forget foggy (or worse, icy) windows - as long as you keep the engine and AC going.

Only when the temperature falls as low as MINUS 15 centigrades or worse, and there is about PLUS 15 centigrades or more IN the car the AC would not be enough. To keep your windows clean (and humidity about zero in your car) you have to turn the ventilation onto 3 or 4, which is pretty noisy. But visibility pays it off.
