But see how conditions are tricky thing, try to make 100 km on foot instead of bike on just one burek (meet pie) radmasa.gif

And in my Logan, i can make a 1000 km on just one burek! radmasa.gif
Loganovac
>>in my Logan, i can make a 1000 km on just one burek!<<

Now all around the internet, on all car forums, you will be quoted instead of me. So ask Dr. Heinz who is going to visit you this weekend...
heinz57g
no he is not, this weekend. i am so stuffed with burek, that i refuse
to move. which makes 3 bureks = 0 kilometers. terrible efficiency.

greetings - heinz -
Loganovac
Really terrible, maybe the time has come for a general repair!

Now, that will inprove my ranking on Google, I might even beat Stu's Bessy Regs! biggrin.gif

So, Heinz, you say you can't come to visit because you're stuffed with burek?!? wink.gif
We are dissapointed, but you would be too if you knew what you are missing wink.gif
There is a Burekdzijada (burek fair) tonight... wink.gif including the contest for the best burek! wink.gif No efficiency contest will be held, though... radmasa.gif
Loganovac
Where, where???
heinz57g
>> Burekdzijada (burek fair) tonight...

dont believe you anyhow, these things usually happen on weekends.

greetings - heinz-
g100sic
Heinz, tonight is just the opening, you don't really think such a fair could last for only one night wink.gif

And FYI tonight is also the opening of the Vine fair in Vlasotince, too bad it is not in the same place... wink.gif
heinz57g
so exactly WHERE is that burek festival? at your home?

can we get loganovac to come there? you saw his answer. for a free
burek he will go anywhere, adding a few punds of foot pressure, and
specially since he drives a car without hardly any fuel consumption.

greetings - heinz -
Loganovac
exactly like that, heinz! just give me the coordinates.
g100sic
This is one thing that I do not do with my wife, we do not host a Burek fair!!! radmasa.gif

PS
And I must say a word of warning, burek at the fair is NOT free!!! biggrin.gif

PPS
And I'm not giving coordinates to anyone from Serbia, they should be ashamed because they don't know where such a famous fair is held! wink.gif biggrin.gif
martin245
Hi I have just weighed my foot and you will never believe this but i weighs more when i stand than when i sit this is very wierd .But I think if we have a sunroof and stand up and drive we must be able to go faster due to heavier feet
Just a thought

hey, i am not from serbia, and my wife is a real burek-lover too!

you also should give loganovac a chance: even though he is from serbia,
anyone that does not know and does not admit that LPG usage is 30%+/-
over gasoline, also cannot know where the burek fair is.

so where is it?

greetings - heinz -
martin245
I dont know where it is
BUT
Here is the recepie for it .Mmmmm I may even try it Make a change from fish and chips radmasa.gif

Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 medium yellow onion, peeled and chopped
1 pound ground beef
1 teaspoon allspice
2 teaspoons Hungarian paprika
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 box phyllo pastry sheet (12 inches x 17 inches)
3/4 cup butter, melted
Preparation:
Heat a large frying pan and add the oil. Saute the onion until soft, and then add the ground beef, allspice, paprika, salt, and pepper to taste. Cook until the meat is crumbly but not dry. Cool completely before you continue.

Lay 1 sheet of phyllo dough on the counter. Brush with some of the butter. Place a heaping 1/3 cup of meat mixture acrosss the sheet along the long side, 2 inches from edge. Fold the bottom over the meat mixture and roll into a snake shape. Cut the roll in half and coil each roll into a snail shape. Place on a nonstick baking sheet and butt the end up against the edge of the pan to prevent uncoiling. Brush with additional butter.

Bake in a preheated oven at 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until just golden.

Keep the remaining sheets of phyllo dough covered with plastic, and work quickly to prevent in from drying out.

Hint on handling phyllo dough: Be sure the dough is at room temperature before you open the box. Place the sheets of dough on a large cookie sheet and cover them with plastic wrap and then a heavy towel. In this way, they will not dry out while you are working with them. Work fast for best results and do not have the butter too hot when brushing the dough.

Yield: 18 to 20

heinz57g
what the heck is phyllo dough? sounds almost indecent. and if you used all
those 'foreign' ingredients trying to make serbian burek's, you would only
achieve two thing: ( a ) it wouldnt taste anything like a burek, and ( b ) you
would get kicked out of serbia. rightfully so ...

Dear Heinz, here is my humble contribution to your overwhelming knowledge.

Börek originated in Turkish cuisine (cf. Baklava) and is one of its most significant and, in fact, ancient elements, having been developed by the Turks of Central Asia before their westward migration to Anatolia. Börek in Turkish refers to any dish made with "yufka", the Turkish word for phyllo pastry.

In Serbia and Macedonia, burek is made from layers of thick dough, alternating with layers of other fillings in a circular baking pan and topped with a layer of dough. Traditional fillings are stewed ground meat, cheese, apple, sour cherry, mushrooms, and a modern variant, "pizza" burek. Prazan burek ("empty burek", i.e. without filling) is also made.

The recipe for modern "round" burek was developed in the Serbian town Ni¹, where it was introduced by a famous Turkish baker, Mehmed Oglu, from Istanbul in 1498.

So, Heinz, now we can conclude what Stu's phyllo pastry is. The recipe is definitely not for a "Serbian" burek (if any), but it sounds very tasty.

P.S. We are not off topic, because we already proved the importance of a foot weight to an average fuel consumption, so burek has a lot to do with it.
g100sic
@Stu
Do you drive your Logan wearing THOSE boots? biggrin.gif You need no burek for heavy feet! biggrin.gif

@Loganovac
Instead of copy/paste you'd better just put a link to the article wink.gif You are not the only one who can google! biggrin.gif

An important corollary: There IS a Serbian variant of burek "The recipe for modern "round" burek was developed in the Serbian town Ni¹", never mind that it was invented by a Turkish baker. wink.gif Even the author of our national anthem is not Serbian... biggrin.gif
Loganovac
@g100sic
Why are you getting so upset about copying the most relevant part of the article instead of putting a link to the whole one? I thought it is easier that way, and also I did not sign that text. Notice the sentence "So, Heinz, now we can conclude what Stu's phyllo pastry is." It implies the above quotation.
I can not believe that some people on this forum are so anxious to argue about totally unimportant things. Maybe you are not happy for your burek secret been revealed...

29 Aug 2008, 09:10:
P.S. And, furthermore, you had not discussed the very essential of the facts posted, but just the way they are posted... I'd like you to be more creative and far less destructive in your posts.

Loganovac, I told you once you were square... Now, you can be round on the outside all you like (or don't), but on the "inside" you are still square! wink.gif

Lighten up a bit, you started a flame, now you don't let us even turn it into fun! biggrin.gif

Now something serious from me for a change... biggrin.gif

When you use somebody else's contribution, like for instance that article you used, it is an elementary thing to give him/her a credit by quoting the text and mentioning the author, however insignificant he/she may be. The shorthand for that is to simply put a link to the text (blessed the hypertext biggrin.gif)!

As for my burek secret, I hereby declare that I don't have any (secret, that is), I couldn't even make one, even with Stu's or Mohamed Oglu's recipe... radmasa.gif

But I can make scrambled eggs in many variants, and also a very good kachamak (corn palenta)! radmasa.gif Makes very good fuel for body (and soul) for applying pressure on the gass pedal for us with light feet! radmasa.gif

PS
I don't want to change my permanent signature, but here is a temporary one:

It's a shame that such a burek expert misses tha name of the original Serbian burek designer and founder - once again, it's Mehmed, not Mohamed, dear. And you were complaining of a Serbian not knowing where the burek fair was to take place!

I don't think that I am the one who started the flame. May be so...

The unquoted text was taken from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, and was unsigned there anyway. At no time was my intention to take any credits for it.

You are right, sometimes I am square inside. showfinger.gif

Greetings to all.
g100sic
Didn't I say I was no expert in burek, my expertize is in scrambled eggs tongue.gif biggrin.gif

And I do know where burek fair is taking place, I just did not want to tell you biggrin.gif You can google it out even without me, it's easy! biggrin.gif

As for the unquoted text, it does not come from wikipedia, here is the source:

hey you two, really love you !

same name, different spelling in different countries, different dialect, even
different between two branches of the same religion, but still same basics.

Regarding the burek fair, I have to apologize to all of you guys for the disinformation! The opening was not on thursday, it is tonight.

And so, Heinz was right yet again about the term... wink.gif That man is starting to go on my nerves, being so right all and every time... wink.gif radmasa.gif
heinz57g
>> That man is starting to go on my nerves, being so right all and every time...

dont worry: it even bothers me sometimes, and goes on my nerves. and those
of my wife, family and friends.

alternatives: shutup, lie, malinform, let people run into walls, let people pay double
for something, let them ruin their life, let them argue and fight ... thousands of
solutions.

alternatives?

First, I am going to quote g100sic, the man is really pissing me up!

Listen, pall, before you call me a liar, check this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burek

And for those who cannot google, you just type "burek" at the Google's home page, choose "all languages" option, and on the first page of the results you get this link (5th of 2.350.000).

SO DON'T YOU EVER CALL ME A LIAR. I AM THROUGH WITH YOU.
But no problem at all if you continue sneaking up to Dr. Heinz, on the contrary! It makes me laugh as hell.
heinz57g
i was not sneaking away, just busy and driving most weekend.

but you two, you are creating something that will soon be in the
GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS:

** THE ONLY BUREK WAR IN THE WORLD, FOUGHT IN THE WWW **

and that might be the real difference: you fight about it, i eat it.

greetings - heinz

g100sic
My apologies to Loganovac, obviously I stumbled upon a wrong source of (almost) the same text, but this is only a result of people not quoting their sources, not my intention.

Apologies again!
heinz57g
ey ey , dont stop so quickly - i was enjoying the war. it was nice and
proper of you to apologize, g100sic, but you easily could have thrown
in some free burek next time me or loganovac are in nis.

and if we ever meet together, i will bring along plenty of subjects of
making you two fight, and me sitting by, relaxing. may i take pictures?

could we make you two do a cyber-space handshake? actually, here in
the balkans, this would be a hug and a kiss. i have a feeling serbia, any
corner of it, really has other points to argue about right now.

greetings - heinz -
Loganovac
Apology accepted, although not sincere.
I agree, links are better, but only the RIGHT ONES.
heinz57g
loganovac, pls do take my word on this one: knowing g100sic as
much as i do, THAT WAS HONEST AND SINCERE FROM HIS SIDE.

more sincere than this one even his wife would not get out of him.

greetings - heinz -
Loganovac
ok,ok, it's all right now...

greetings to all
martin245
All this talk of wars and even Men Kissing has made me start to think if I am in the right forum .I dont want to kiss no guys if I am wrong (not that i am often wrong )
anyway how can I remove my Tacho
come on you guys get down to the local scrappys and find me one it does not need to be a working model but preferably one without bits of skin and blood on it
Heinz if you cant find one for me cant you write off one of those from work ....
Just for me ???? ....What did you just say ? tongue.gif
Stu
Loganovac
I don't know about your customs there in the Western Europe, but we usually do not use tong when kissing man to man.
And one more question concerning your tacho: do you always bring your pocket currency converter while shopping in Germany?

greetings
martin245
<do you always bring your pocket currency converter while shopping in Germany>
What the hell has that got to do with my tacho ?? and why when i live in Germany do I need a currency converter
The Mind Boggles blush.gif
Stu
Loganovac
I thought that maybe, as you feel confortable with miles instead of km, you might also need a conversion of the prices in EURos to GBPs - just my thoughts of a habit.
Yeah, yeah, now I understand that what you really are going to need is the other kind of converter - speed limits in miles/h to km/h. icon_mrgreen.gif
Don't be angry with me, just kiddin'.

But then, the other question arises: WHICH mile do you want to convert to? Because there are a lot of different miles, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mile , so if it is going to be quite official METRIC mile (1.5km), you can easily calculate it by heart.

grrrrrrrrr..........i could not resist it................. 243.gif
