It's nothing special about this program. You can do the same thing with any wireless connection manager.
And by the way, it's not working on Vista platforms.

Hi Stu, this software is for stupid people? What is the difference if I go in the center of the city, I turn on my wireless card from my laptop and I look what networks without encryption it finds?

The point is that the wireless connection manager that already exists on a laptop also works well and it's easy to use.
This program maybe saves you three clicks.

What does it do that
Netstumbler doesn't? (Except being stupid friendly)
Bonus: Netstumbler also discovers networks with hidden SSID (if there's traffic on that network, of course).

(Mootar) morons.
(Mootar) these people who live in my apartment complex are connected to my wireless
(Mootar) they must think they're super-cool hackers by breaking into my completely unsecure network
(Mootar) unfortunatly, the connection works both ways
(Mootar) long story short, they now have loads of horse porn on their computer

why do you have an unsecure network
and the porn you send them will and can be traced back to your IP

in some country's its illegal to use someones network.
its the case in Belgium.
@martin245/Stu: while not meaning to get into a dispute with you, there are some things that are not quite OK:
Such a WLAN-Manager (which is what you describe) certainly has its reason to be (for example automate the connecting process). However there is a major drawback to the approach:
Any responsible user should want to know (and control) what network a computer logs into. Besides from being maybe illegal (but who's going to sue you for that?) this is a huge security hole you are digging, illustrated by the message referring the porn. Now, here is how that message reads:
1. a malicious user (let us call this user MU) sets up a non-secured WLAN;
2. other people are "clever" and connect to the said network (let us call them N for naive);
3. the machines uf the Ns are now within reach of MU.
4. I dare say, Ns machines are not properly protected (for otherwise they would not be naive, for example they'd want to know to which networks they are logged)
5. MU can now do... "things" with the machines of the Ns. This can all be done automatically, so MU can go to sleep in between.
Hoping to track the IPs is lulling oneself into assumed (alas not existing) security for more than one reason: the Ns might not even realize that their machines have been attacked; typically there'd only be a private IP address to track (since the machines would be attacked from within their LANs) - which leads nowhere.
The old saying still holds - there is no such thing as a free lunch.
nowadays an unlimited Mobile Internet conection whit free USB modem cost ~10 euro/month, who would want to mess around whit free risky wireless networks?!

the Mootar quote was an oldie but goldie.
on the other hand, i'm sorry, but using someone else's wlan, is hust like taking his car just because he left his keys in the ignition. same word for both. stealing.
I hope you're just talking about hot-spots with free internet.
