Hi

I own a new dacia logan 1.5 dci 85 Laureate from 2008, 6000km, brand new, still under warranty.
But I have an annoying problem: when I accelerate from low revs (under 1500 rpm) and I go past 1500 rpm, I can hear a loud rattle coming from te right side of the car which passes when I go past 1500 rpm, it sounds very "plasticy".
I have allready taken it to the garage, he hears it as well and claims it to be the catalyst mounting, but since it isnt broken and mounted rock solid he isnt going to change it.
However I dont believe it to be this mounting, since the catalyst is not in the front of the car (the sound comes from the right at front) and it sounds like plastic rattling.
One peculiar fact is that the rattling sound can only be heard while actually driving, when revving the engine standing still, there's no sound.

Im going slightly crazy because this is VERY annoying.

furthermore I do really like the car, except for the fact that im quite big and the driving position is really bad, but I'll have to live with that, otherwise its a wonderful car with an amazing engine.

pleeeeeeaaaase somebody know what the frag is going on

friendly greetings

Is the air filter properly fastened? I've had the same problem with my 1.4, the rattling "plasticy" noise was coming up past 3000 rpm (but not when revving the engine while standing) and I found that the air filter's case was loosely fastened to the engine.
It's just a problem of tightening the screws and eventually adding some rubber washers.

this makes a lot of sense! I'll try it as soon as I can get to my car tommorow and let you know.

thanks for the fast reply! up.gif

It is lose timing belt! It can be haered only with WARM engine, also at parking, uncupled from any gear. You can try this when finish driving.

I have same problem. In service DIDN'T want to fix it blink.gif They said, it is new car, only 4000km, and those factory adjusment is good for sure blink.gif

what an idiots!

a loose timing belt? thats dangerous and stupid
plus there is not a chance in the world that the manufacturer would allow a belt to be too loose.

Ill check the plastics for construction quality, if this doesnt solve the problem I'll get the belt cover of to have

a loose timing belt? thats dangerous and irresponsible on the account of the garage.
Plus there is not a chance in the world that the manufacturer would allow a belt to be too loose, they're talking nonsense.

Ill check the plastics for construction quality, if this doesnt solve the problem I'll get the belt cover of to check the stiffness.

huh.gif that would really be a bad mistake huh.gif

some good suggestions so far. up.gif

hi

dacia english corner

I tried this because this is the same problem that I have been experiencing, so far it seems to have solved te problem, I put some simple plastic in the gap and the sound is now very muffled, I still have to find some decent rubber to put in the gap but I'm verry happy I have found the problem!

The diesel engine especially creates a lot of vibration at low revs, this combined with the pressure that you put on it when it has to pull the car at such low revs seems to generate enough of a buzz to get this little part of plastic to rattle against the body.
I think this is a poor design flaw but I can imagine this to be overlooked, no big deal!

k, so bad luck, the noise came back very quickly, I don't know why it was gone but it doesn't have anything to do with the plastic bits apparently.
It can't be the air filter because in the diesel it isn't anywhere near where the sound is coming from, I can't even find the thing.
I am very hesitant to check my cambelt cause Renault is known to break warranty whenever possible.
So if anyone knows whats going on, please tell.

I've contacted Renault's customer service for help, but I'm not expecting much, if they dont give the promised solution I guess all I can do is get the car back to the dealer and tell him to check the belt

I've told you what can be. Check tension of distribution belt! Alo check oil leakage in that area.

Also could be:
1. metal cover under the engine. Some screws got loose!
2. plastic cover of wheel. Also some screw got loose or missing!

final control (if there is any!?!?!) of vehicle in factory is VERY, VERY BAD!
