I have 1.5DCI Logan, since 08.2006 and passed 6000km.My engine oil level is slowly going down and now is at the X letter (from MAX and MIN).Help me pls if you have some information on it.Is this normal for DCI engines. If I wait for 10.000km for 1st service the oil level will be more empty.I don't have much help from RENAULT service. It's complicate, I have to leave the car for 1 day to check the level ...

After me, I can say it's quite normal for a diesel engine to lose a little quan. of oil.But if you loose more, you must go to a service to analise the situation.
Good luck.

Your motor WILL use oil during the running in period and then it will settle down
DO NOT fill above Max and if I was you I would not fill it untill it gets lower then the Middle of Max and Min .
It will start to use less oil in time
I can tell you this I have not put any Oil in Mine and it sits on the halfway mark between Max and Min and this is after 12000 km
(So it has found its own level )as we say in the UK

Always measure the oil level in the morning before starting the engine, preferably in the same parking place.

And, don't check your oil level when motor is warm, because oil level rises when motor is warm...

check how much oil you lose at the turbocharger. turbochargers ALWAYS consume oil. their spinning speeds can reach upt to 200000rpm - that's A LOT, and even nowadays they cannot make a seal from the core of the turbo (which is cooled with oil from eingien), in such a manner that does not leak oil into the exhaust.

at BMW the consumption of the oil is written in their manual (about 1L/20000km).

i can see you have DCi .. which have turbo. see if it doesn't flow oil from turbo or too much smoke on exhaust (oil from turbo went into the hot exhaust it is turned into black smoke). even if it does leak from turbo it is not fixable.. you may have to replace the turbo.. expensive, that way i recomend you to check how much oil you lose.. if it is more that 1L/1000km i suggest you to replace the turbo, but as i understand your level of oil may be misscalculated because of improper methods of measures, anyway you do not lose too much oil as i understand, so it is ok, and it is normal for a turbo to leak oil (a bit, not too much)
to convince yourself look at the exhaust of other turbo-diesel cars when they accelerate from the stoplight.. even if it is a mercedes they leave a trail of black smoke thus of the oil spit from the turbo into the hot exhaust.

sorry for my english..

and if he sticks by post 3 he will be ok excl.gif
Hell we can say all sorts of things that it COULD be .Lets just stay with the basics and check oil levels and wait rolleyes.gif
and replacing the turbo is not expensive cos its a new car .ever heard of garantie ?? cool.gif and if he is using more than one litre per 1000km take it to the Garage ....What planet are we on???......184.gif

A BMW M5 model E39 will loose up to 2 liters of oil in 1000 km!!!!!!!! And it's normal, written in the owner's manual! biggrin.gif

i didn't say dacia logan is a bad car (i coulden't say it's good either.. but it's another story).

i hoped to relax the man that if his turbo leaks oil.. it is not a problem, and the fact that it is loosing oil could be from the turbo, and improper use (reving it up to max => more oil spit by the turbo). solution in this case: just buy a bottle of oil and refill it up to max indicative. But if you see that you really loose oil and you do not see that is not spilling from the engeine on the parking area, than you could really check the turbu, and be glad you have waranty.
and if turbo it is not expensive.. what is it? i mean a turbo it is about 500-2000euros depend of the car.. i know renault have huge prices at parts.. they are competitive with VW-opel-ford parts which are in most of the time better quality, same price with renault.

Guys! Every diesel needs oil due to high compression ratio and high working temperatures. My second car, Opel Kadett 1.6 D, 24 years old, needs 0.8 L of oil every 3000 km, and that is OK.
So if oil between MAX an MIN is sufficient between two service intervals, no need to worry icon_mrgreen.gif

Guys, I know that Mercedes E220 (1995) and Opel Vectra 1,8 16V (1998) have same consumption of motor oil : 1 liter per 1000 km
written in the owner's manual of the this two cars!!! So I think that
consumption of some quantity of motor oil is normal .

That's it ! People usually think oil level has to be measured when the engine is cold but that's actually WRONG. Oil level should be proofed some 5 minutes after engine has fully warmed up cool.gif

Anyway, although manuals always state that 1 L / 1000 km is OK, I personally believe that's bullshit. With such consumption you would have to refill 3 TIMES over a 15.000 km period mad.gif To me, it's just a way not to get too many warranty claims mad.gif

1. If oil level is above MIN marking on the dip-stick then it is ok. Just check it regularly and if drops below go to the service.

2. Oil consumption of 1l/1000km?!?!? That's a lot. It's almost like a two-stroke engine that burns gasoline mixed with engine oil.
