Hi,

I don't want to start a controversial topic, but I'd like to hear opinions about what gas I should be using. I have the 2007 Logan 1.4 bought in Colombia. The mechanic said to use premium gas for a while (first 1,000 or 10,000, can't remember - big difference in $$$), but the salesman said regular was OK (or use a mix OR use additives). Extra gas here in Colombia is almost twice as expensive as regular, and since the car is supposedly built for countries like this, I would think the designers would expect people to use regular. I don't want to screw up my car (won't even have it paid for for another 6 years), but I also can't really afford to spend double on gas. I put in 15 gallons a week ago (right out of the dealership) and am already down to three bars; the trip thingy says I'll go about 330Km on this tank, which comes out to about 22Km per gallon, much less than what I was expecting, but this is the first tank and it's supposed to get better, right?

Any experiences or ideas?

Hi
If you use the cheap fuel and you notice no difference in power then use the cheaper fuel!!
a way to tell if the fuel is no good for your car is this .you will hear a noise that we English people call pinking Or Pre ignition .It is a noise that you will hear if ulabour the engine
and it sounds like a rattling noise..(NOT GOOD) and if you let this happen for too long you will end up with Pre Ignition this is when the engine runs even when turned off ...Due to Glowing carbon on the piston heads that will in turn burn a hole in the piston
as for additives ll they do is empty your wallet radmasa.gif
and you have a problem with your KM to Ltrs huh.gif

you should be getting for 100km about 5 or 6 ltrs rolleyes.gif
I think you are having a problem with your mathmatics wacko.gif

Thanks. Maybe I'll try a tank of regular - has anyone done that?? What is everyone else using?

22Km per gallon comes to about 330Km per tank (15 gallons in the tank). That's less than the advertised 40Km per gallon, but I assume that is highway driving. My 22km per gallon is around town with a lot of traffic, start and stop stuff. I guess that's not bad for the first go around, but I was hoping for better. I'm not sure what you mean about my math...

1.4 MPI and 1.6 MPI:

The 1.4 and 1.6 eight-valve engines correspond perfectly with the criteria of cost, strength and ease of maintenance that are a characteristic of all Logans.

The 1.4-litre engine delivers a power output of 55kW (75hp) at 5,500rpm and maximum torque of 112Nm at 3,000rpm, while the 1.6 engine boasts maximum power of 64kW (90hp) at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 128Nm at 3,000rpm. Both are coupled to the manual five-speed gearbox that equips Laguna II and Mégane II.

Combined cycle fuel consumption of 1.4 75hp version: 7.6 litres/100km.

1.6 16V

Recently introduced for the saloon version, the 1.6 16V engine ensures unrivalled performance. With top power of 105hp (77kW) at 5,750rpm and maximum torque of 148Nm at 3,750rpm, Logan MCV 1.6 16V accelerates from standstill to 100kph in 11.8 seconds and boasts a top speed of 174kph.

Combined cycle fuel consumption of this 16-valve version of the 1.6-litre engine is just 7.5 litres/100km.

The 1.6 16V is coupled to a Type JR five-speed gearbox with enhanced synchronization and cable-controlled gear shift which combine to ensure reduced travel, extra gearshift precision and therefore greater driving pleasure. Oil change intervals for all the petrol engines that power Logan MCV are just 30,000km.

If the same engines are installed in Colombia as here, the only restrictions regarding fuel type by the manual are the use of unleaded fuel only, and there is the low limit of the octan number for the fuel, but I can't remember that limit now. Anyway, you should read your manual carefully, and if that type of fuel you call "regular" satisfies the requirements, there's no need to throw away the extra bucks.

We had here a petrol type called "Regular", but that was only suitable for very old type of engines, it was the leaded petrol with octan number of 85, I think. This kind of petrol would ruin any modern engine (but the catalysator would go down first)!

So READ YOUR MANUAL! There is everything you need to know inthere! And if in doubt, ask people at the gas station, thay should know also. Or check a couple of gas stations, even better!
