I never heard of that code (C3L), nevertheless we have an engine called "106.00", it has 1557 cc, and it was built in Romania. You can find (here in Romania) all the spare parts for that engine. There is also an injection version.
It was offered on the Dacia 1310 Berline/ Break(limited series), Pick-up, and Nova GT. |

Thanks for your answer, do have further information of for example bore and stroke and also a picture of that engine? Or even a link to it where I could find?

Sure.
Bore 77 mm, Stroke 83,6 mm, compresion ratio 9,25:1, 72 HP @ 5250 rpm. It looks from the outside aparently like the old Renault 12 engine. untitled1yr8.jpg |

QUOTE(argon @ 15 Nov 2006, 20:07) Sure. Bore 77 mm, Stroke 83,6 mm, compresion ratio 9,25:1, 72 HP @ 5250 rpm. It looks from the outside aparently like the old Renault 12 engine. untitled1yr8.jpg That sounds good. 84mm stroke or 83,6mm that´s equal and more than 77mm... What I plan to do, is giving my R5 Alpine Turbo engine more displacement by increasing the stroke. From the engine-block the R5 AT-engine is based on the R18-engine with 1397ccm (BxS=76x77mm), if this 1557ccm engine is based on the 1239ccm R12-engine there is a good chance that the crankshaft and the conrods would fit. Do you know about the prices for the crankshaft and the set of four con-rods, or do you have a link where such parts were distributed? What about the quality of these parts? In the R5 AT the peak power is (with normal displacement) at 6000rpm and the rev-limit is at 6500rpm... Thanks and best regards Oliver |

May I ask what do you ned the rods for?!? They're the same as is the case of the 1397cc engine.
The only parts you need to change in order to achieve the conversion are the crankshaft and the cylinders sets. But as you said you own a R5 turbo engine, it will get tricky when it comes to the pistons (at least so I think, I'm refering to the geometry of the piston head). So I suppose that you already have your 77 bore pistons. The price of a new crankshaft for the 84mm stroke goes around 125 euros. I believe it's safe to say it will do the job just fine at the revs your engine can reach. Edit: just now I think I've understood what you're trying to do. So, you can NOT use the old pistons with the the big crank shaft. There are no shorter rods to compensate the increased stroke. That is done by the distance between the bolt and the top of the 1.6 pistons that is shorter. With all these in mind, I'm not sure that your plan is achievable. For the non-turbo engine, it can be easely done, I've already mentioned the required parts, I'm just not sure about your type of engine. There are two members of this forum that have 5 turbo engines on their cars, one with a GTT and one with an Alpine. None of them have 1.6s. Let's see what they have to say about this. I always thought the con-rods are different at 84mm Stroke.
In Argentina there was the ClioA sold with a 1.6l engine that was called C3L, it had also 77mm bore and 84mm stroke. When I now compare the part numbers of the C3L-engine with that of the C1J/C3J-engine they are different: C3L con-rod set: 77 02 206 846 C3J con-rod set: 77 01 458 393 motor13.jpg If it´s true with the commen con-rods for all engines then, I think I´ll keep the engine´s displacement as it is. There are shorter con-rods existing but for a price that´s nuts and I know also mecaparts..... Another solution might be go up to 77mm bore and then use the pistons of the R18-Turbo engine (A5L), but I think with 77mm the wall thickness of the liners becomes too small for a charged engine. My engine-code is C6J-726 (108hp). Edit: One more thing about the stroke, is it really 83,6mm at the Dacia engine? The C3L engine from renault argentina has definitivly 84mm. Using the pistons of the 18 turbo would be a solution, but it might not work. As far as I know, the rods of the 18 turbo are "borrowed" from the 12 G. And this engine has nothing in common with the plain 1.4 Dacia and Renault engines.
PS: where do you get those engine pictures from? |

Yes that´s the problem the R18 turbo is based on the A-familiy engines with aluminium-block and 89mm cylinder distance and the biggest problem is that the piston bolt has a bigger diameter than the C-familiy engine, I didn´t think about that....
The picture I have found in the internet when I searched for information about the C3L engine, there are more existing, this is not my HP: http://renault5.rogerco.hu/downloads/Clio/...%20Nacional.htm Do you know the bolt distance of the Dacia 1557ccm engine´s con-rods? Cause getting parts from Romania it´s easier than from Argentina.... |

Hello Oliver,
did you manage your ideas about ccm and stroke, singe you've written here in 2006 ..? I have a similar problem with not enough torque in my my nonturbo engine... my actual Equipment is 1397 ccm with 40dcoe ported and polished head with lightened valves, 123ignition, oil-water-cooler etc... Please take you a few minutes for me, and tell me, what stroker crank you have and where did you get it... Regards Magnus |

Hello Magnus,
today I received crankschaft, liners, pistons, etc. from a 106.00 engine. My neighbor is from Romania and brought the parts from his holiday. So this means actually there was no progress since nearly 10 years.... This winter I try to take it. Best regards Oliver |

Hello.
I found a site that sells parts for 1.6 turbo. http://jdmotorsport.es.tl/ Maybe you can be interesting in gasket, probably they use one with more tickness to get a lower compressio ratio. Bye. |
