I washed my Logan yesterday at OMV gas station....
Is it smart/harmfull to wash car in mechanical car wash, such as OMV's Top wash????
Now you can find "micro" scratches on color which was not there before washing.

What are your's experience?Does it caus harm on car color?Or it is normal.......? huh.gif

I don't think that it is recomended to use automatic car wash, but the touch-free kind of car wash is a complete rip-off.
Believe me if your car has salt on it from the winter roads it doesn't do a great job at all.

The Germans. Otherwise I wouldn'd find it every spring under the hood of my engine. (I hope I wrote the whole thing right).

At work I have an auto car wash! It is verry dangerous for your paint! One week ago my car was repainted partialy, and , after one single wash by those big brushes, the paint was scratched and the signs left were verry visible!

Personaly I advise the manually way to clean your car! But not in the cold season sad.gif , you will find yourself extremly 'cool' .. biggrin.gif

That's exactly where I wash my Logan. A Top Wash OMV automatic washer. No problems so far and the car looks as brand new each time after.

Salt has been removed from streets long time ago, in EU; even in RO; it harms both the cars and tarmac
Automatic car wash looks good but the brushes shout be clean/maintain propelry; othewise you can have the surprise Adrain had and mentined above !

And the "best" thing that is going on with salt is that they are salting iron bridges and even those made from "impregnated concrete(beton)" . And after winter, or even after days that they use salt no one washes these bridges!!!!!! 251.gif post-336-1110552439.gif

No it's some kind of solution that we imported from EU. I don't know the formula. It's quite expensive and should be spread before the show (that's the trick, you have to estimate correctly). Afterward it's useless.

Here it will be tested this winter. On bridges at first, because it is effective on temperatures lower than -10C.
It is some kind of liquid if I am not wrong..... blink.gif

Could somebody tell me where from does all that salt come under my hood? I know how salt looks like, and I also did taste it in order to be sure that that thing really salt is. And it's funny, because I find it only in spring. But you keep on tryin' to convince me (or maybe not necessarilly me) that it's not salt.
P.S: Pls excuse my english, I hope you got my point.

Ya I remember it last winter.
The snow turns brown/red and it's not freezing (doesn't melt either)
Being soft, the tyres get trough, to the asphalt, and get better grip.
Looks good but is bloody expensive
It protects the cars (no rust anymore), the roads (God knoes how) and the environment (the salt doen't into the sewage anymore and into the revers to kill the fish-if any left).
The tricky part is to spred it at the right moment. To early or too soon and it's lost money.
And if a blizzard comes, then again it's money badly spent !!!!

Well this week I have traveled to upper Michigan. Here they definetly use something that looks exactly like salt, they don't use any type of liquid that you guys are talking about. Just yesterday I was behind a plow truck and out of the back, it shot out of a little hole something that looks exaclty like salt. When I arrived I looked at my car and there on the mud flaps was salt. huh.gif

I dont know....there are opposite opinions...
Program 4 on this Top wash is useful in winter, because it washes bottom(under body) of car....
...but also washes whole car......

I, personally, wash my car in the gas stations, mechanical of course. The bad thing is that i have schratches from it. It's not very good to do this, but i hate to wash my car in a ordinary car wash, because it's a bad joke.

I let my car get washed with this top-wash when the winter's gone, and almost everyone here does it, against the salt used in winter. After that I do wash my car by hand, I do polish and wax it (i'm not sure I wrote that properly), also by hand. It's an old car, and although it is an Opel, it has no rust at all.

I wouldn't let it washed in a gas station if they wouldn't use ("if conditional", I always got problems using it) salt round here in winter, that's why I wash it always by hand during the year, when the bottom of the car doesn't need to be cleaned from salt.

As my car was very dirty after 1000 km in bad weather, I decided to go to an OMV Top Wash. I choose program 3, as it will get dirty again very soon. It went well, no scratches, no problems.
The trick is to have the dirt very well moisted, that's why I went in the morning. Also the guy first put the hose on it because of the same reason... Good luck.

I wash my car only by hand. I don't trust the machines for that matter.
Beside the salt spread as an de-icer on the roads, in the winter the snow comes with a lot of salt in it so after a snowy winter you will shurely find a lot of salt deposits anywhere on your cars. So I believe that especially in the winter is best to wash the car by hand with plenty of water, as the salt could be very abrasive.
