Outline · [ Standard ] · Linear+ Recommendation for a summer (“all season”) tyre ?, in 14" size

I already have a set of winter rims+ tyres (Barum Polaris 2, quite good) but, now, before spring comes, I am thinking about to replace my summer set of ("all season") Barum Brilliantis that Logan came with two years ago. My original tyre dimension is 165/80/14 (quite rare, it seems used only by Logan) but as much I could see 185/70/14 has the same (minor difference) diameter. And I think that 185/75/14 can fit on original Logan 14” rim (?) you can fit 15s on a logan so just get asome new rims

I think the difference in width between 185 and 165 mm tyres is too much to be fitted onto the same rims. Check with a tyre service beforehand! The hight (or diameter) of the rim+tyre is not an issue here, you will have a problem with the width!

Yokohama or Michelin are quite good. Price is acceptable (about 50-60EUR) and these tyres are really soft. Comparing with Barum Brilliantis it feels like new suspension and there is low noise. Yes, dimension is really specific, but I found on several places recommendation for 185/75/14, so I think it can fit rim. But some services suggest 165/70 (small fuel consumption, lower car profile - about 15 mm). But, I think that 185/75 is better solution since out diameter almost same, so driving is more comfortable, especially over the bad rouds.
It will be good if someone would like to share own expirience with new dimension.

Now, first issue about fitting new tyres is rim size. You have to check what is your original rim size (and tell us here it is something like 6J14 or 5,5J14 or 6,5J15 etc). According to rim size, there is room to fit tyres one number bigger or smaller then it is supposed to be fitted on such rim.
Always bear in mind that your spare tyre will be different in size.
Continental EcoContact3 tyres are excellent, i recommend those.
If you want bigger rims and tyres, I suggest to buy 5 new alloy rims and 5 Continental EcoContact3 or PremiumContact2 tyres but what is purpose of alloy wheels on basic version of LGN?

Already have second set of 4 rims with 4 winter tyres, so, selling existing set of rims and buying a new, is something that I am just to tired to do.

I know that ideally I should have alloy 15" set with good summer tyres and set of 14 (or 15) " steel rims for winter set of tyres - but, my logan came with 14" steel ones... so, I guess I'll stay with it...

For you that asked what is rim size of my Logan: 5,50 J 14 (according to tech. specs in manual).

Price is around 60 Euros (Barum Brilliantis is below 50 euros!), so, if has to be
judged by the price, shouldn't be worse than Barum?

I am considering keeping it as an option since it comes in original dimension
for the Logan with 14" rims: 165/80/14.

It seems that 185/70/14 is even closer match to 165/80/14 than 185/75/14.
At least from diameter point of view.

By changing the tyre aspect (/80, /75, /70...) you actually change a diameter and circumference of a wheel+tyre combination, therefore you also effectively change the ground clearance of the car, and the precision of the speedometer and distance counter.

Actually, the closest match to your original dimensions would be 175/75 R 14!

Well, I've check all those calculators on the web... and yes, this is the closest match - but it is almost impossible to be found on the local market.

175/70/14 - yes
175/80/14 - also no prob.
but, 175/75/14... no

Found Toyo 330 in original Logan dimension 165/80/14 - but don't have any experience with Toyo. Anyone?

Friends have Toyo's on their cars (Skoda Fabia and Renault Clio 2) and they say it's a super tyre. But I don't know which Toyo model they have. What I can find on the net, 330 is a normal tyre, nothing special, it's OK.

You are right - Toyo 330 is ordinary economy tyre, and "nothing to write home about" - but I guess it is better than Barum Brilliantis? Big advantage of this tyre is that is available in 165/80/14 dimension.


Since you got Michelin Energy, I guess that you took Logan with some package that includes 15" rims and tyres?

I bought a Laureate, it comes with 15". I was surprised with michelin tyres, I expected something like barum.
