Can we make a quick survery which oil to they put on first oil change (first service after 1 year)?

I guess that this depends from country to country, and from one auth. Dacia service to another - but they must respect same API specification as "suggested" one? (I guess ELF/Total).

What did they put in your Logan?

Use full synthetic motor oil, wich meets or exceeds API specifications mentioned for your Logan. Just to be on the safe side, try to get a oil from a big brand (Castrol, ELF, ARAL, Texaco-Havoline etc).

just for your information, about engine oils

And to say a few things, there are no full synthetic oils in our cars, they are derived from mineral oils, but on the sticker i know that 5W, and 0W oils are known as synthetic oils, still that only part of the truth.

Anyway, my best recomandation is to change (and check) oil as written and only put branded and seald products. (obvieusly with the same specifications, 10W40 in this case).
The choice if it's elf/castrol/mobil1/whatever, is just a thing of "flavour". A normal driver on a budget normal car such as logan will never see an immediate difference between brands of oil.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But, you are driving a "Mitsubishi/Mercedes Carisma/B-class 2003 1.9 DI-D/2007 200CDI - B 79 ASI/Bxxx", and for our Renault engines we use specially designed oils (http://www.lubricants.elf.com/lub/lubroot.nsf/VS_OPM/227BB0DFF3DA5AA7C12573750054F385?OpenDocument), ELF branded and, of course, properly sealed. Although you are right about 100% synthetic oils, all types of oil that we use satisfy the highest standards (above ACEA requirements) and are called 100% synthetic (i.e. http://www.pacerfuels.com/lubes_elf.php). I was not the one that give them that name.
Anyway, thanks for pointing that out.

14 Jul 2008, 06:50:
P.S. ...and, by the way, take a look at the EXCELLIUM FULL-TECH 0W-30 description under the first of the above links, ELF declares it as 100% synthetic.

Motul double-esther motor oils are trully full sinthetic. Try 300V if you can afford it.

In India Mahindra Renault recommends API SG/SH/SI/SJ for Logan petrol and CF for Logan Diesel.

Engine oil belongs to these specification need not be Synthetic.

I think the OEM oil from ELF is made of Group II base oil.

I don't think it's relevant what I drive.. for a while I drove a dacia solenza 1.4mpi (renault e7j engine), and in fact I know this motor quite well (dissamantle it a couple of times, at school, learnig purpose).
Anyway, the terminology of full synthetic oil 0w, 5w, etc, is generaly corect, but there is a small unknown category of synthetic motor oils that are special, and do not have anything in common with 0w oils, or any other normal oil. It isn't recomended for normal cars .. (read more in that carbible link i said early, it's a section of pure synthetic oils - AMSOIL)
nevertheless on a normal cars (this includes most of regular street cars ranging from robin reliant to mercedes an bmw's) is less important what brand of oil you use as long it's regulary check and changed. On a racetrack may be (it is) another story of witch i cannot say many things.
