In the very closest of contests, the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia emerged victorious as Car of the Year 2009 with 321 points against the 320 for the Ford Fiesta. The Volkswagen Golf took third place with 223 points.

The Insignia is the first Opel to win in 22 years but General Motors’ European company has been runner-up four times – and in 2007 the Opel Corsa lost by just two points to the Ford S-Max. Ford has won the award five times but this is the second occasion it has lost by one point.

This year’s narrow victory emphasizes the high level of this year’s competition, which has 37 initial candidates and seven finalists. Of the 59 car of the Year jurors representing 23 European countries, 20 gave the Insignia top points, while 19 put the Fiesta in first place.

Opel has defined Insignia design as artistry with German precision: premium values at an affordable price. Many Jury members appreciated the looks and visual quality of this model but the new C/D car from Russelsheim is much more than style. Active and passive safety, comfort and a wide array of efficient engines characterize this model. The richness of equipment can be increased with sophisticated options such as the ‘Opel Eye’, that reads road signals, FlexRide suspension and nine-mode Adaptive Forward Lighting.

Mi se pare ciudat ca a iesit Insignia pe locul I, cel putin dupa ultimele articole din presa auto, unde nu era foarte apreciata. Poate si faptul ca Opel nu a castigat de 22 de ani sa fi contat. smile.gif
Megane a iesit al 7-lea.

Daca povestea asta nu-i MASLUITA, sīnt EU POPA.

Opel CERSESTE bani la conducerea germaniei si se pare ca se si aproba. E clar ca toata treaba-i UMFLATA rau.

Se pare ca la chiestiile astea, cine plateste MAI MULT, iese mai bine indiferent ce spune sititorul sau posesorul, indiferent cīte unitati se vīnd si cīte nu.

La succesul ce-l are Dacia pe aici, as fi putut baga mīna-n foc ca cīstiga Dacia titlul.

E clar, de aia vinde GM participatia la Suzuki, ca sa aiba bani de spaga pentru COTY 2009 si pentru locul 4 la AutoBild. radmasa.gif

Nu-mi place Insignia prea mult, dar e o evolutie imensa fata de Vectra-C. Asa ca mi se pare un titlu luat pe merit.

Einar, tin sa-ti amintesc faptul ca Renault a avut niste facilitati fiscale deloc de neglijat de la statul roman.

Lasa ca a mai luat Fiat-ul premiul maret si s-a vandut nevoie mare modelul. A fost chiar un esec comercial.

Masina nu e urata, chiar dimpotriva e un mare pas in fata comparativ cu Vectra, da' mie tot imi da asa o impresie de BMW-ul 5 al saracului... icon_mrgreen.gif ... or is it just me?... Oricum ii prevad o cariera stralucita si in Romania, ma gandesc ce apreciata o fi de manelistii in ascensiune, aflati inca in anticamera succesului icon_mrgreen.gif .. etapa de tranzitie intre Dacia berlina cu spoilere de fibra de sticla, eleron si icoane si respectiv X6/Touareg...

C5 e la fel de departe de versiunea anterioara ca si insignia fata de vectra

aphophis, aici is. Eu sustin in continuare ca sunt niste chestii masluite pe-aici. Insignia parca era slab cotata prin diferite teste.

Eu as fi ales MiTo sau C5.

Mito il exclud din stard.

C5 sincer nu cred ca are notorietatea lui Opel in atatea tari.Masinile frantuze sunt privite in multe tari cu destul de multa suspiciune.Sa nu uitam ca C5 e o masina care trebuie sa convinga.NU numai in romania masinile germane au asa un aer de "ciumegeala"

@Arhimede, la asta cu masinile frantuzesti nu prea sunt de acord.
Renault a luat multe "Car of the Year". Cele mai recente - Megane - 2003 si Clio - 2006.

Cred si eu ca Insignia a castigat nu ca ar fi neaparat cea mai buna dintre cele 7 ci pt ca aduce un plus fata de generatia anterioara.
La fel cum Megane a castigat in 2003 pt ca era total diferit fata de generatia trecuta, pt ca avea un design original, pt ca luase 5 stele la EuroNCAP, prima masina din clasa compacta cu asemenea punctaj.
La actuala editie Megane-ul nu a mai adus nimic nou desi toti ziaristii din juriu au recunoscut ca Megane-ul 3 este mai bun decat Megane-ul 2.

Astia la Car of the Year premiaza in primul rand inovatia, originalitatea. Parerea mea! smile.gif
