Hello,
while it certainly is a good idea to use proper tyres, I'd like to point out that tests made by both Michelin and Continental show that, if havig 2 "better" and 2 "worse" types, the "better" ones should be rear (not front!) regardless if the car is FWD or RWD. Reasons are: 1.for a "normal" driver -but not only- it is easyer to regain control of a car that is sliding over the front axle than over a car that is spinning because the rear axle has lost grip; 2. should "it" happen, severe injuries are more likely to occur in a side crash than in a frontal one (at same speed). This is because of the way cars are built (seatbelts, airbags, crumble zone). Remember the spinning car when rear axle looses grip? |

os, that is another one of those points that is totally true, and ALWAYS ignored. most FWD drivers will
put their 'better' tires in the front, which might sound logic to them, but is wrong. i had actually mentioned this shortly in my mssg 06dec above, but as you know, i might as well hit my head against a wall, same result. want to bet that 95% of those who drive mixed winter and summer tires and have a FWD car will have them in front? no mentioning of names here. this issue has also been discussed/debated/argued about since 50+ years, and is still done wrong in 99% of all cases. it is a pity you and me (almost) are alone on this. does it make you feel as stupid (and frustrated) as it does with me? greetings - heinz - PS: all these mssgs on use of winter tires should not be a personal attack on a particular person. i admire g100sic, who takes all the brunt here, because at least he argues, even if he is wrong. but at least he talks. whereas there have been dozends, if not 100s, of people who have seen these posts, have realized they are and have been wrong for the past XX years, and keep silent. shame on you. Thanks heinz: it is not my merit, but that of Michelin, Conti an so on. Since I am aware of what you mentioned (people ignoring this issue) I thought I write it here.
No - it takes more than this to make me feel frustrated. When I don't know something, I ask. When I know something, I tell it. It's easy. |

>> When I know something, I tell it. It's easy
is it? when you tell, and you are ignored. you tell again, you are ignored again. you tell again, you are told to shut up. you shut up, they die. not frustrated? lucky you. greetings - heinz - another PS: i admit this was 25+ years ago, but it proofs my point. we had a test course in sweden, middle of the winter, ice and plenty of snow, only on SAAB cars, all FWD. the point was to prove if real professionals (factory test drivers, ralley drivers) would make a major difference on the already then debated tire issue. 10 cars with winter tires and spikes (!) in front, normal tires at rear. 10 cars later, same drivers, with the opposite, the winter/spikes in the rear. remember, all FWD cars. results, after 75km each, very clear: - the cars with the winter tires in front were much faster, accelerated better, had better grip on starts, and on hills. as everybody thought it would be. - but: of the 10 cars with winter/front only 3 finished the course, one badly damaged, but still dragged along. 7 ended up in the ditch, one a total loss. - the 10 winter/rear were slower, admitted, but of 10 at least 8 made it to the finish, 2 in the ditch, nothing terrible, just not able to 'free' themselves. - and remember once more, all with really good drivers, who knew what there was to prove. - and proven it was. - overlall result for the general public: NONE |

he very well emphasized and pointed out what was said before, too. him mentioning names of manufacturers backs up what he says really well, but it is something i for legal reasons could not have done, and will not do. >> Tell people how to get by with what they've got GREAT! so you promise you will do what he said, very well backed up? you will put your very good winter tires on the rear of the car? THEN we all achieved something. thank you, os. greetings - heinz - This post has been edited by heinz57g: 9 Dec 2007, 21:30 |

os, tks, clear statement.
actually, not having seen my words and then saying almost the same is even better, much better in this case. its in the same thread, about 3-4 days ago. the argument actually started out, is it better to have 4 medium quality winter tires, or even 4 good re-threaded ones, > or < have two good winter tires in front, and two summer tires in the rear. greetings - heinz - This post has been edited by heinz57g: 9 Dec 2007, 22:11 |

keka, what do you mean, not invited? everbody is invited. specially you: actually, i was coming to visit you yesterday
evening, but for some reason (the police said because of an accident, but i think they were lying) the road between stara pazova and indja (or indja and novi sad) was totally blocked, tried several ways in, and was always put back on the autoput, 30km around and 5 EUROS poorer, and delayed by 30 mins, so i missed you. nest time, ok? greetings - heinz - PS: read the post from the begininng, and you will understand the jokes. the only thing which is not a joke: g100s's logan was standing there, yesterday, under full snow cover and plenty of icy roads around, and had 4 summer tires on it ... |

keka, the one thing that was NOT a joke was my trial for Novi Sad on saturday
late afternoon, that was true. a LOGAN meeting in serbia would be great fun, somewhere in a village with plenty of food and fun. but i a afraid it will be hard to convince people: distances are great, travel is expensive (fuel and road tolls), and budgets are tight. with the meetings in NL and D, families spend several hundred euros to attend, even though the actual event is free. but the sidecosts are enormous comparing them to what we here in the balkans are used to. so for a SR meeting, we would really need to think, and come up with a formula that suits as many as possible. maybe attaching it to another attraction that is not so very commercial (and expensive), but interesting for the whole family? like the Sargan Mountain Railway (Mokra Gora) festival? or the Guca Music Festival (Dragacevo)? a bit much drinking there, but then LOGAN drivers are sensible people. or even better: the famous Winter Tire Festival in Nis? greetings - heinz - This post has been edited by heinz57g: 17 Dec 2007, 12:02 |

Hello,
Would it be possible to use 205/60 R15 tyres instead of 185/65 R15? I mean that is this new size enough fit in case of end-turned wheel? Is there enough free space for 205/60 R15? I'd like to use my original iron wheel ET50. |

Does this answer your first question?
http://www.pneus-online.co.uk/equivalency-tables-advice.html Seams that it is not possible fitting those on Logan's original rims. As for the second... Looks like it is possible technically, but check is it legal too! And also, what on Earth do you expect to achieve by putting tyres that wide on a Logan?!?!?!?!? To turn it into a racer?! ![]() |

i bought tigar winter1 tyres for my logan (made in serbia) and there are ok so far. i've only tested on dry and snow, but i'm sure that they will do fine on wet too. they were also very cheap: ~35E/pcs
