Toyota is recalling around 214,500 2006-2008 GS300/350, IS250/350 and LS460/460L sedans over potentially faulty fuel delivery pipes.

The Japanese automaker is working with NHTSA on the US recall, which centers around fuel pipes that can corrode, eventually resulting in a leak. The problem reportedly stems from certain ethanol fuels with low moisture content that can lead to rust, occasionally (but not always) triggering a dashboard indicator lamp indicating a system malfunction.

Affected GS, IS, and LS owners will be contacted about the recall via mail, and Lexus dealers will install replacement parts at no cost.

Mazda will call back some 29,000 examples of its slippery new Mazda6 sedan for a potential door handle fault that could cause them to open without warning. According to Automotive News, the outside handle can cause the door to open as a result of an "inconsistent dimension combination" between the bracket and the handle (read: they don't line up properly). The fix will involve replacing any/all door handles and/or brackets if they are found to be defective.

In other recall news:

    * Chrysler will recall 13,000 Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans over the possibility that unused connectors for the blind-spot detection system can corrode, leading to a possible vehicle fire. Affected vehicles will have the unused connector sealed and a fuse replaced.
    * Ford will recall some 11,000 units of their 2009 two-wheel drive Ranger pickups due to potentially faulty front wheel spindles. The spindles will be replaced at no cost to the owners.
    * General Motors will recall 8,000 G6 cars from the 2005-2006 model years over a corroded connector that could cause issues with the brake lamps, cruise control, and gearshift. The fix? A bit of good old-fashioned lubricant to prevent rust.
    * Ferrari will call back around 2,000 F430 Spyders to install a set of heat shields to protect some hydraulic hoses. As the story goes, the convertible top's hydraulic system may leak fluid, leading to smoking and burning.

In all cases, affected owners can expect to receive a letter warning them of the issue, urging them to schedule a no-charge service appointment with their local dealer.

Nearly 31,000 Mazda CX-9 crossovers are being recalled to repair an issue with the driver's seat. Models affected were built during the 2007-2009 model years. According to Mazda North American Operations, improper routing of wires under the driver's seat cushion can lead to a short-circuit that activates the power-adjustment mechanism. This could lead to an inadvertent change in the seating position, height adjustment, or seat back recline while the vehicle is in motion. According to Mazda, dealers will be able to fix the potential problem with cable ties and replacement parts. If you are a late-model CX-9 owner, check your mailbox after the notices go out on March 9.

Volkswagen has two unrelated recalls underway, both for issues that pose safety risks. All 5,000 2008 R32s are being called home to replace a valve in the evaporative system. Left unchanged, the fuel tank vent valve may creep open when ambient temperatures are high, and driving conditions are just right. The misbehaving valve could lead to fuel winding up in the evaporative emissions system, possibly even getting into the charcoal canister, which could lead to driveability issues. The fix is a new valve, available at the VW dealer, free of charge.

The other recall involves nearly 6,000 CC models. A misrouted wiring harness related to the right front seat's seatbelt buckle could lead to wire damage. If the harness suffers damage, it will disable the passenger's airbag, while also lighting a warning lamp in the dash cluster. With a disabled airbag, crashes are potentially more injurious, so buyers are encouraged to head to the dealer, where they'll look for the problem and replace whatever parts are needed.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has just announced a major recall covering nearly 1.5 million General Motors passenger cars from the late 90's and early 2000s. The recall affects various Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac models equipped with normally aspirated versions of GM's much-utilized 3800 3.8-liter V6.

Apparently, some of these engines can drop oil onto the exhaust manifold during hard braking. If that manifold has gotten hot enough and the oil dribbles below the heat shield, it can start a small fire. The flames can then engulf the plastic spark plug wire channel, potentially resulting in a full-on engine compartment fire.

The fix? Dealer service departments will be asked to remove said spark plug wire retention channel from the front of the engine bay, and then retrofit two new retainers.

Chrysler is recalling over 47,000 models, including the 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Commander, and Wrangler four-door that may have reversed wiring on the driver's airbag controller, a defect that may inhibit the airbag's deployment. Additionally, the 2002 and 2003 Jeep Libertys sold in New England and much of the Midwest are susceptible to a loss of lubrication in their front ball joints due to salt. A Ford acaba de anunciar um recall para os Focus 2005 a 2008 vendidos no Brasil, que tenham câmbio e piloto automático. O sistema tem um problema no cabo de controle do piloto automático, que poderia ocasionar uma interferência.

Essa interferência seria entre esse cabo e o sistema de acionamento do cabo do acelerador. Se acontecer esse problema entre os dois componentes, existe o risco de travamento do pedal do acelerador, não deixando de acelerar o carro mesmo com o motorista tirando o pé.

Isso poderia, é claro, ocasionar acidentes graves. O que será feito é a substituição do cabo de controle de velocidade do piloto automático. Essa troca pode ser agendada em qualquer uma das concessionárias da marca ou pelo telefone 0800 703 3673.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Hyundai have initiated recalls on 963,305 vehicles as part of four separate campaigns. The first recall, blanketing over one half million late-model vehicles, is nationwide. The other three recalls, all corrosion-related on older vehicles, are limited to the regions of the country where salt is used to de-ice roads in the winters.

The most widespread recall, affecting up to 531,894 2005-2008 Accent, Azera, Elantra, Entourage, Santa Fe, Sonata, Tucson, and Veracruz models, is NHTSA Campaign 09V122000. It is focused on a malfunctioning stop lamp switch that may prevent brake lights from illuminating when the pedal is depressed (the same switch may also cause them to stay lit after the brakes are released).

The second recall, affecting up to 175,765 1999-2004 Sonata, XG300, and XG350 models, is NHTSA Campaign 09V124000. That recall, limited to America's so-called "Salt Belt" states, is centered around potentially excessive corrosion of the front sub-frame due to winter road salt applications. If unnoticed, the lower control arm may separate from its mount.

The third recall, affecting up to 170,610 2001-2003 Elantra and Tiburon models, is NHTSA Campaign 09V125000. Also limited to the salt-belt states, the affected component is a failed lower control arm due to excessive corrosion.

The fourth recall, affecting up to 85,036 2001-2003 Santa Fe models, is NHTSA Campaign 09V123000. Again limited to to the Salt Belt states, the recall is centered around the possible internal corrosion of the rear trailing arms in the vehicle's suspension.

In all four recalls, Hyundai dealers will inspect, repair, and replace defective or damaged parts at no cost to the owner. Le constructeur suédois dont l’une des parties de l’image de marque repose notamment sur la robustesse ou la fiabilité (sans oublier évidemment l’aspect sécurité) n’est pourtant et évidemment pas à l’abri de pépins techniques. La raison de ce rappel est détaillée par la porte-parole de Volvo. “Il y a un module de contrôle dans le système de refroidissement et à cause d’un souci de fabrication de ce module, de l’eau peut entrer pouvant dans le pire des cas entraîner des courts-circuits“, explique Maria Brohlin. Les propriétaires seront avertis par courrier et invités à se rendre chez leur concessionnaire pour les réparations et diagnostics d’usage.

A ponteira do escapamento tem defeito no material de construção, que poderia desenvolver micro-rachaduras, e cair no meio da rua.

Some Toyota Tundra owners are reportedly experiencing inordinately heavy amounts of premature rust, and they want the Japanese automaker to take action to address the problem. WCVB TV in Boston has been investigating the Toyota rust situation for about a year, and they're reporting that at least two dozen 2000-2001 Tundra owners have complained to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Owners of 1995-2001 Toyota pickups say their vehicles had inadequate corrosion protection, and many feel that the automaker should recall the vehicles.

When we mention excessive rust, we're not talking about some corroded quarter panels or a little dusting around the wheel wells. Drivers have complained of trucks so rusty that the frames are cracking, panels are falling off, and, in some cases, the trucks are too unsafe to drive. One owner is reportedly dealing with a power steering rack in need of repair, but the rust is so bad a new rack can't be bolted to the frame. The Boston TV station also investigated the smaller Tacoma for rust issues last year and found several frames that were disintegrating due to excessive corrosion.

For Toyota's part, the station reports that the automaker is buying back select models at 1.5 times their Blue Book value, but there are other truck owners who are still clamoring for resolution. The Japanese automaker says it is investing every case individually and that it's using lessons learned from the Tacoma incident to proactively investigate vehicles made with similar production techniques. Camaro5 forum member Bumleb drove his brand new 2010 Chevy Camaro SS about 40 miles when it suddenly just shut down (that's his car above being trailered back to the dealer on a flat bed). The culprit turned out to be a battery cable run from the trunk. Its insulation had broken down from rubbing up against the starter and eventually just shorted out, which ultimately caused the car itself to shut down. Before this was known, however, the forums blew up with speculation about what could be the cause and Mustang and Challenger fanboys had a field day. It turns out, however, that what happened to Bumleb's new Camaro may not be an isolated incident. General Motors has reportedly issued a voluntary product safety recall for any 2010 Chevy Camaro equipped with a V8 engine to ensure this doesn't happen again.

The recall is a pretty easy fix, but GM is reportedly offering two options for owners: a temporary fix that requires a second visit to a dealer and a permanent fix. The temporary fix involves wrapping the battery cable with protective insulating tape and rerouting it to ensure enough clearance between it and the starter. The permanent fix involves the same thing, except will use a new engine wiring harness that's being shipped to all dealers by May 11. Thus, owners can choose the temporary fix and keep driving their Camaro or just leave it at the dealer until the new wiring harnesses arrive.

The real question is whether or not this recall will damage the Camaro's reputation and ultimately hurt sales. Every aspect of GM is under the microscope, so what does it say when such an important new product launches with a recall right out of the gate? Thanks for the tip, Mark!

UPDATE: The AP reports that GM has built about 1,400 Camaros equipped with a V8 that are affected by this issue, but only 300 have been sold and are therefore under recall. The rest will be fixed before they're delivered to dealers.

Dacia has been with a call to revision for the Sandero at the worse possible moment. Agreeing with the presentation in Barcelona of the Stepway version, the National Institute of Consumo has issued an official notice to warn that the compact one made in Rumania could have a “possible failure in the witness of the control panel that would not ignite in case it failed the electronic distributor of braking”, reason through which their proprietors will have to go through the factory. In order to facilitate the repairs, Renault will be put in contact with the owners of the affected vehicles.

Coincidiendo con la presentación en Barcelona de la versión Stepway, el Instituto Nacional del Consumo ha emitido un comunicado para avisar de que el compacto fabricado en Rumanía podría tener un "posible fallo en el testigo del cuadro de mandos que no se encendería en caso de que fallara el repartidor electrónico de frenado", motivo por el cual sus propietarios deberán pasarse por el taller. Para facilitar las reparaciones, Renault se pondrá en contacto con los dueños de los vehículos afectados.

Today we bring a handful to you of new calls to revision for “cheering” the weekend. Several models of Mitsubishi and Volvo have appeared in the European network of alert by technical problems that they will have to be corrected in the factory.

Beginning by Mitsu, the Outlander and Lancer CW5W, CX3A, CX4A, CY2A, CY3A, and CY4A can present/display a problem in the control valve of the servo brake. The symptoms are difficulties to tighten the brake pedal after to have left parked the vehicle during several hours, as well as a hardening of the same circulating at low speed. The models with change of marches manual are not affected, but the rest is under suspicion and will have to be reviewed by the house.

Volkswagen has announced that it will recall some 25,594 examples of its 2006-2009 Jetta over a potential driveshaft issue. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, cars with the company's 2.0-liter inline-four may have driveshaft cover plates that weren't manufactured properly, with the consequence that their screws may not be torqued correctly. If the screws back out, drivers may experience a knocking sound while in motion. In the extreme, the driveshaft could conceivably detach from the gearbox, which could cause all kinds of problems that might lead to a crash.

Owners of 2006-2009 Jettas with the 2.0-liter engine should contact their VW dealer for a free inspection and/or replacement of the screws. THE FASTENING SCREW CONTACT SURFACES ON THE DRIVESHAFT COVER PLATE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED TO FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS. SOME SCREWS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TORQUED PROPERLY DURING ASSEMBLY AND COULD LOOSEN OVER TIME, CAUSING A KNOCKING SOUND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. Ya es sábado, y eso significa que toca hablar de llamadas a revisión. Hoy son tres los nombres que nos proporcionan el sistema de alertas de la Unión Europa y el Instituto Nacional del Consumo: Nissan Murano, Dacia Logan y Suzuki Grand Vitara.

El SUV de Nissan se ha visto afectado por un defecto mecánico que podría causar un mal funcionamiento del motor, llegando incluso a pararse en pleno funcionamiento. Concretamente, esto es lo que dice el informe: El conducto de entrada de aire del motor, que está conectado al resonador intermedio del sistema de entrada de aire al motor, se puede soltar del resonador. Esto puede provocar un ralentí inestable o una aceleración pobre y en caso extremo, el motor puede pararse en marcha.

La solución consiste en cambiar dicho conducto de aire, para lo cual Nissan ya está informando a consumidores y talleres.

En cuanto al Dacia Logan, se repite exactamente el mismo defecto visto hace dos semanas en el Sandero. El testigo que indica un posible fallo en el sistema de freno podría no iluminarse. Todas las unidades afectadas fueron fabricadas entre el 26 de mayo y el 12 de noviembre de 2008.

Finalmente, en el Suzuki Grand Vitara 1.9 se ha detectado que las camisas de parte del cableado del motor podrían deteriorarse al rozar con el tornillo de la tapa de la correa de distribución, pudiendo causar un cortocircuito y en el peor de los casos, llamas. Los modelos bajo sospecha tienen los siguientes números de identificación: JSAJTD44V00106868 a JSAJTD44V00223811 (5D), y JSAJTA44V00107438 a JSAJTA44V00208921 (3D). Su fecha de producción está comprendida entre junio de 2005 y el 28 de febrero de 2007

Cerca de 35.000 unidades do Pontiac G8, anos de fabricação 2008 e 2009, estão envolvidos em um recall, onde os donos do sedã esportivo serão chamados para resolver alguns problemas eletrônicos.

When opening a door, one expects to grab the handle and pull without the risk of injury. If you own a 2002 or 2003 Hyundai Sonata with chrome handles, you may not have that luxury, says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. As a result, Hyundai is recalling 91,000 Sonatas because the chrome plating on the upper edge of the interior handle may wear, "causing cracking or separation between the chrome plating on the inboard and outboard surfaces of the handle." NHTSA says the sharp edge can cause "laceration injuries to anyone using the door handle." Ouch.

Os donos dos modelos ML 320 CDI, ML 350, ML 500 e ML 63 AMG aqui do Brasil, fabricados entre julho de 2008 e março de 2009, deverão comparecer a uma concessionária da marca. Um recall está sendo feito por problema na lanterna traseira.

Os chassis afetados são 9WDC1641221A4442562 a 9WDC1641861A5113108. Essas unidades tem que trocar a vedação da lanterna traseira. Segundo a fabricante, pode ocorrer infiltração de água no módulo de acionamento da tampa do porta-malas e causar um curto-circuito no equipamento, com risco de princípio de incêndio.

Para no perder la costumbre, esta semana los talleres volverán a tener trabajo con un nuevo lote de llamadas a revisión. Uno de los vehículos afectados, además, tiene muy poco que ver con la plebe, demostrando una vez más que la invulnerabilidad de las marcas premium es un mito como otro cualquiera. Grandes y pequeños, todos caen por igual.

Empecemos si te parece por el Tesla Roadster. La estrella de los coches a baterías tendrá que ser revisada debido a un defecto de origen. Los operarios de Lotus, que fabrican el biplaza bajo encargo, no apretaron con la fuerza suficiente los tornillos de los bujes de las ruedas, algo que podría notarse inmediatamente en forma de ruidos y vibraciones. En total, son 345 las unidades a reparar, todas ellas fabricadas antes del 22 de abril de 2009. Este problema también afecta a varias unidades de los Lotus Exige y Elise.

Volviendo a la tierra, Fiat tendrá que ocuparse de cierto asuntillo relacionado con el Scudo. El problema se encuentra en la válvula del servofreno, que podría perder efectividad con el tiempo, endureciendo el pedal e incluso pudiendo ocasionar un accidente. Las unidades 2.0 JTD 16V con chasis 4004001 a 4019385 deberán pasarse por la consulta del médico.

Finalmente, se ha detectado que algunos neumáticos del Hyundai i20 tienen válvulas defectuosas. El resultado, obviamente, sería una fuga de aire. Las unidades con llantas de acero de 15" fabricadas hasta el 31 de marzo de 2009 se encuentran bajo sospecha. Los números de identificación son los siguientes:

Volvo no es una marca que nos tenga acostumbrados por sus avisos a revisión, pero últimamente está acumulando unos cuantos. El último emitido por el servicio de alertas de la UE llama la atención sobre un problema técnico en los S40, V50, C30, C70, S80 y V70 modelo 2009 con el motor 2.0 D. Todos estos vehículos se encuentran bajo sospecha de equipar unos servofrenos defectuosos, cuya efectividad podría verse reducida a bajas temperaturas con el consiguiente riesgo de accidente.

La verdad es que este problema se ha convertido casi en habitual durante las últimas semanas (son ya muchas las marcas con servofrenos despistados), así que no nos extrañaría ni un pelo que algún proveedor de componentes común hubiera metido la pata en alguna parte.

The 2001-2004 Kia Optima is being recalled in several states for corrosion of the front subframe. The recall covers some 36,538 examples sold in the U.S. in the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia – all areas typically noted for being high rust threats due to their difficult winters and use of road salt.

According to the recall, internal corrosion of the front subframe can weaken the mounting points near the lower control arm, leading to everything from irregular tire wear to abnormal stress levels in the system that may contribute to a cras.

The recall begins this month, but neither Kia nor NHTSA have outlined a potential fix in the recall notice posted after the jump.

Una vez más, un defecto en una pieza concreta se extiende a los catálogos de múltiples marcas. Después de que la semana pasada Volvo tuviera que llamar a revisión a buena parte de su gama, Ford ha tenido que hacer lo mismo con los Focus, Focus CC, C-MAX, Kuga, Mondeo, S-MAX y Galaxy. Si has estado atento a las revisiones de los últimos días, ya te habrás imaginado que la causa se encuentra en los servofrenos.

El problema concreto, tal y como aparece en la notificación de la red de alertas de la Unión Europea, es que la válvula antirretorno del servofreno se puede quedar atascada durante el calentamiento del motor, resultando en un endurecimiento importante en el pedal y la consiguiente pérdida de frenada.

Los vehículos equipados con el motor 2.0 Duratorq (DW10, diésel) fabricados entre el 1 de noviembre de 2008 y el 12 de marzo de 2009 se encuentran bajo sospecha, por lo que el fabricante se pondrá en contacto con sus propietarios para la correspondiente visita al taller.

Some 44,451 Saturn Vue models from the 2008 model year are being recalled, and yours might be a part of the action if it has body-color door handles. What's the deal? According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the handles may stick, preventing the door from properly latching.

NHTSA says an unbelted occupant could tumble out of the vehicle as a result of a door that refuses to latch, though one has to figure that you're sort of asking for it by ignoring the safety gear. In any circumstance, doors that pop open aren't acceptable, so the 44,451 vehicles affected will be give chrome door handles by dealers at no charge to customers. The recall goes into full effect by August 18th, plenty of time to get a can of Nevr-Dull to keep those shiny handles looking their best.
