My Logan 1.6 MPI Laureat is at ~18400km and I lately noticed very annoning problem. In drive, kilometer stops to count driven kilometers, and speedometer goes to 0km/h even if I drive 20 or 60 or 120km/h. Then later is "switchs on" and count and then "switch off" and so on... Did someone expirience same or similar problem? I hope that isn't problem in board compter as I am out of the warranty (2.5 years old car), I preffer that some cable/wire is damaged smile.gif I schedule service in monday next week, but I wanted to get informed before I go there. Thanks in advance for any kind of help.

My guess is that the connecting cable to the gear box is damaged and not functional at all times. You can have a visual inspection of the area by removing the plastic cover of the engine or you can just leave it up to the mechanical guys.

Anyway would be nice to keep us posted of the problem and how you managed to solve it.

There is no cable from the gearbox to the speedometer. The instrument panel is electronic.
I suspect there is a problem with the panel itself. AFAIK some users in the Romanian section also reported that for a brief moment the rpm and speed indicators have dropped to zero. The solution was to change the instrument panel.

Ah, so it won't be cheap :'( Complete new speedometer is around 380e, only the part wo. price of machanics to change it. But I think spedometer is just affected by that kilometer isn't counting driven kilometers and one multipling with 0 (zero) in equation resulting that speed is 0 (zero) km/h. I just hope that isn't complete board computer broken :S. Is there some info on internet that that part has built-in error? smile.gif

I may be saying something stupid, but I think I read something about this on the forum. The speed info goes through the radio's connector (a green wire, actually 2 wires on the same pin). Maybe you should check if those wires are firmly attached.

LE:
I found the topic (in romanian) here.
It says the speed info goes from the gearbox to the dashboard through a green wire. The wire is also used for the speed info for the radio (the volume rises as you go faster). You should check pin 1 of the iso connector from the radio. You should see 2 green wires there. Just check if they are firmly attached.
It seems this is a common problem. If you changed the radio, just disconnect the 2 wires from the connector (but leave them connected together); it seems some cd players use that wire for something else and this may be a cause for your problem.

You should also check all the wires from the speed translator in the gearbox.
I had this problem once and i figured out that the black cable from the translator (ground) was ripped.

Unfortunately you are wrong. There is a cable connecting the gearbox (cable meaning not literally a cable but an electric contact cable) connecting the gearbox to the car’s computer. This cable can be seen by removing the plastic cover of the engine. It can also be removed on purpose, thus the kilometers you make with the car will remain a little secret. While this cable is unplugged the speed and the kilometers you are doing will not be shown, however the rpm will be active.

All the best!

What happens with the reading of the km indicator after the break, does it pick up counting where it stopped, od does it make up for the "lost" distance?

In the first case the problem is probably the loose connection from the sensor in the gearbox or the sensor itself may be broken. In the second case the problem is probably in the dashboard.

Driven kilometers are lost for ever :S (~250-300 for now) I tried with breaking, driving over bumps on road, acceleration, killing the ignition and starting the car again...nothing helped. It just goes "on" and "off" at random time. It's only happend one time with cold engine in the morning, and usually it's happend after some time of driving...

As I said, this behaviour almost certanly indicates a malfunction BEFORE the signal is fed from the gearbox to the computer. There is nothing wrong in my opinion with your dashboard. My advice is that you don't fall for that if in the service they tell you that it must be replaced.

Did you check the wire I told you about? I'm almost sure that's your problem.

I had the same problem with my old R25. First you have to check the speed sensor plugged into the gearbox, and after that the integrity of the cable alecsz99 wrote about. Only after these steps start to think about a faulty dashboard. In my case, the problem was the horrendously bad connections in the dashboard.

Also you can check the connector itself from the speed sensor. If the conector is dirty, then the speedometer will funtion from time to time. Try to spray some electrical contact cleaner on that connector and then see if the problem is still there.

Maybe some of the Logan owners can help you with a picture of that connector.

Today in service thay fixed the problem, defect part was SENSOR KM 770 part number 77 00 418 919 (like small plastic trumpet 8cm long) and it was relatively cheap 80e. I didn't write but on friday orange indicator right of accumulator indicator on dashboard lighted on so I stoped the car by the road. After consultation with service by mobile I continued my trip, and today went to service. They said that both problem kilometer and orange indicator ware connected and affected because of that defected sensor. Now I will closely monitor to see if problem occure again. Thx a lot for help guys!
