Hello all! This is Ashutosh, owner of a Logan 1.4 MPI , from India. Its been more than six months and I have covered more than 9000kms till yet. And I am more than happy with it ! Although, its a little pricier than anywhere in the world, but considering our market dynamics, I think its priced quite well. Am attaching a few pics of my ride. The pics are from a recent trip to Rajasthan, a province of India. Hey Martin, not all roads are like the ones in the pics. Some are better, many are worst !!

Thanks g100! Looks like out of all the other things you guys noticed just that puny little dent! Well, this happened while the car was parked outside my office. Some stupid biker's bike fell on the fender, I saw it when I was about to leave for home, and then figured out what must have happened. Will get it repaired in the next service.

Could not help it, when it stands out so obvious on the perfection

Wonderful color! I've never seen a black Dacia (well a renault in your case). Looks good and the rims are nice, a shame they are small, but with the roads in India...

Great fotos as well. Is that a budist monastery or what in the last photo?

@DiMaggio - The monument in the pic is the fort of the King of Jodhpur (a former province). It was taken over by the Government of India post independence and is now open for the public to see.

@ezee - Yep, I'm based in Noida. The wheels are of a Tiawanese make called Kyowa. Got a set of 5 for INR 13,500.

I know the name Jodphur this is also An English name for a country Gentelmans trousers (posh word) has this any thing to do with India .As we have a big history with India and also have lots of Indians living in the UK

It looks great in black, but unfortunately for me, here in Romania black is not available.
Are there many logans on India's roads?

I do not think we can buy a Black Logan in the whole of Europe

Jodhpur trousers got their name from the town Jodhpur. Now don't ask me why! I only know this much of history, will have to google to know anything more on that. It has something with the men in jodhpur used to wear while horse-riding.

The food you have there is only 10% of the real stuff. You'll have to come here to see how's the real Indian food like .

Are there many logans on India's roads?

Logan was introduced only a few months back. Sales are slowly picking up. People love its fuel economy, space but generally hate its dated looks (not me though, i love its straight lines). Renault is still an unknown name in this part of the world and common people (read illiterate, when it comes to knowledge in automobiles) are buying it as a sedan from Mahindra. And the quality of the interiors is much inferior to the competition.


I think Logan looks best in black. You can check the mahindrarenault website, there are many colours which are not present in the international market. But red has been given a miss.

There is no black as you can see, but there is that dark gray metallic paint named "Komet siva" which looks even better then pure black, at least in the picture, I haven't seen it in the streets unfortunately. I did see it in "Mineral blue" though, and it also looks fantastic! If that "Comet gray" was available when I bought my Logan, this would be my color of choice, I wouldn't look at any other color!

Ezee, Ashutosh, from what I can see on your pictures, your Logans look exactly like ours in Europe (except for Renault badge and driving wheel on the right), especially from the inside. I expect that the parts and materials are made to the same Renault specifications also. I hope you will not regret for buying it.

What exacly is the competition of the Logan? No offence for your national car Tata, but the Logan in my opinnion is a better buy. I dont know if Mahindra is still producing that old sedan from the 40's or the other one from the 70's... What other competition is there?

Can an average indian buy a car? To what market in india is the logan designed for?

India is an emerging market and growing very fast, specially in metro cities. People have money and willing to spend on luxury items. BMW, Rolls Royce, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo kind of big giants already established in market here.

Logan is designed for no-frills sedan for medium, medium-upper class people. People who are buying small cars and willing to buy a sedan if it fits into thier budget. Logan has all features which one look in a sedan.

Lauch of Logan brings good news for mahindra & reno, as they mamaged to sell around 2750 cars per month (highest among all). But it seems that month of November is worst as they sold only 1500+ cars. Since its inception 16300 Logan sold from May to November 2007 India wide. Sale is seeing a decline due to year end season and due to this they are cutting down production by 20%. Sales will again pickup from Jan 2008 onwards.

In competition with Logan are:
- Maruti Swift
- Tata Indigo
- Ford Fiesta
- Hundai Verna
- Maruti SX4
- Ford Icon
- Hundai Accent
- Honda City
- Maruti Esteem

Although Verna ans Fiesta are performing well with All time champion HONDA CITY (only Gas.)

The only problem I see in sales decline is 1. year end, 2. Mahindra's first car and 3. Renault an unknown brand. People like me and Ashutosh research a bit before making a purchase but not many people who simply believe in Old is Best and can not get out of affection of Maruti & Tata.

Hi what is the milage your getting on City and Highways.

Even after 4000KMS, My 1.4 gives only 7km/l with AC and 9KM/l without AC in city conditions. Am pretty disappointed with the mileage.



Something strange happened and my car became smooth. Until last week I use to curse myself for busing the car. Because the steering was pretty hard and accelerator pedal use to be very hard and I felt even engine was struggling to accelerate, it was so annoying to me.

But last week I tried to claim a steep ramp and stopped in middle of the ramp. So start from that point I used full acceleration. From then on my driving experience completely changed, steering become smooth and engine too glides now. Still I feel the clutch pedal little hard but that is ok. Otherwise it is so nice now.

I don’t know what happened exactly, may be some parts broken ? Not sure? What could have caused this change? Seeking your experts comments

Engine noise is high when compared to other petrol cars, is this buy design? and feel little vibration too.

You accelerated ... that happened

It's no problem if you accelerate to 5500 rpm when you need speed and power ... The engine needs to be at ~2500-3000 rpm to work nice ...

I have a Dacia Supernova ... and i change gears at 2500-3000 ... if you change gear to soon , the engine is not going to work nice ...

I hope my english is good ... and you understant something ...

You are reading your computor wrongly When you see 7 km
It means realy 7 ltrs to 100 km which is correct in fact that is a good fuel consumption . The car is loud after reaching about 110 kph but you just have to turn up the radio BUT it should not vibrate .If it vibrates at around 110 kph and then goes away at 120 it is your wheels that need balancing (no problem)
as for the hill start !!! the only thing I can say is you seem to have blown out a blockkage ! maybe in one of the injectors

This is just a kind of stuff that you don't have to put up with while the car is in warranty!
I don't understand why you waited for 4000 km with such a poor performance without going to the service, and let them bang their heads with the problem?!

BTW, how long is the warranty period for Logans in India?

I am getting:

- 14 kpl with the a/c off in the city

On the highway got 14 kpl, but i was doing 100-120 kph all the time, so even that according to me is okay.

That is 7 ltrs to 98km that is very good dont you worry about that and you will use more when you use the AC
We dont need the AC at the moment while outside it is -9 centigrade and my beers froze on my balcony last night

You should take better care of your beers
