Dear Mr Ponta,

Unfortunately you have got wrong information from the Finnish mine lobby. The environmental permits of both Finnish cyanide mines have been appealed in court. The mines have problems with arsene, uranium and other radioactive substances, heavy metals, cyanide and waste leaks, and toxic breakdown products of cyanide removal in waste waters. Mining waste problems are have not been solved.
In Finland we have some expertise of problems of gold mining but no working solutions. The mines claim that there is no technology to fullfill the environmental standards and they are begging lower environmental standards.
My opinion is that no Finnish mine project fulfill the standard of EU water framework directive, the new priority substance directive and mining waste directive. The Rosia Montana project is even far behind from these.

The Rosia Montana plan based on environmental assessement documents is cheap, and not even on the level of the Finnish projects. The plans do not handle heavy metals according to EU standards, there will be arsene and uranium problems.
The cyanide levels are close to 10 mg in Rosia plans while in Finland the actual levels of WAD-cyanide are about 10 micrograms/liter or even lower, this has caused additional waste problems cyanates and sulphate, and ammonia.

We recently found uranium also from Orivesi gold mine by Dragon Mining, the levels, confirmed by authorities are up to 4.5 times radiation waste limit 40 mg/kg. The lime precipitates planned to left in ponds in Rosia Montana would be likely regulated heavy metal and uranium/radiation waste.

Based on gold content of Rosia the profitability would be questionable. Raahe gold mine is in corporate restructuring and close to bankruptcy with output level of 1 gram per ton.

The environmental permit of Kittilä has been challenged. It poisons rivers by antimony, arsenic, cyanides and heavy metals, and ammonia, cyanates and thiocyanate from cyanide removal.Poisoning of air is suspected.
The mine director is asking relief from sulphate limit of environmental permit from the permit authority and appealed the permit to the court, which he says will not allow expansion of the mine and would risk the investments in the mine.
Kittilä is underground mine with close to 5 grams gold per ton while Rosia has about 1 gram per ton of stone.

The other Finnish cyanide mine Raahe Laivakangas with Canadian Eldorado Gold as major owner. It is simply dumping the waste with arsene, uranium heavy metals, cyanides and toxic cyanide brakdown products to vulnerable Baltic sea.
The waste content is environmentally toxic with arsene (limit 0.5 mg/L), cyanide (limit 0.4 mg/L), uranium (no limit, limit required by law), cobalt (no limit or permit, limit required by law), copper (no limit or permit, limit required by law), ammonia (about 20-30 mg/liter, hundred fold), sulphur ( about 1 gram per liter). It has been known to authorities that the water does not mix at the shallow cost especially during the winter.
The company is in corporate restructuring and almost bankrupt with open pit and with planned 2 gram per ton but with real yield is 1 gram of gold per ton of bed rock mined. The environmental permit to dump to sea in Raahe has been challenged by neighbours in court. Raahe mine has had "accidents" where mining waste has leaked to ditches and forrest, last year up to 3 km from the mine.
The supervision authority has required that the mine permit should be renewed because of exceeding limits and non-permitted substances. The process has been started at the permit authority.

I haven't seen any plan to separate sulphur and arsene waste, or removal of arsene in Rosia. Raahe mine has a separate waste pool for sulphur and arsene waste. Kittilä . There is arsene, which is at least on average about 90 ppm. Arsene is very toxic at low microgram per liter levels. It is carcinogenic to human and enriches in food chain e.g. in fish

The expertise of Finnish "green mining" industry in lies and the authorities are possibly more stupid than corrupted which is not excuse for breaking laws. EU Comission is examining Finland with suspect of breaking water frame work and mining waste directives.

There was other wrong facts apparently given to prime minister by Finnish mine lobby. There are about 50 smaller closed mines in Finland, with documentes leaking of arsene, uranium and heavy metals. There is no sustainable solutions provided to the mine waste issue, and my opinion is that current mines are not level of the mine waste directive. There are only a few working metal mines, rest are lime stone and stone mines.

Romanian prime minister is seeking for advice about mining at your government! He says that your country do mining with cyanide at the highest level of environment protection and we have to learn from you!
"I think we have a lot to learn from Finland, which has the important resources they exploit, they dont have closed mines. They have 52 running mines, they do this operation with the highest environmental standards, using cyanide, but meeting the highest standards. I asked for technical support "

Dom' fost director are o problema:

Roşia Montană Gold Corporation (RMGC) anunţă că îl dă în judecată pe fostul director general al Institutului Geologic al României (IGR) Ştefan Marincea, pentru "afirmaţii false şi defăimătoare".
"Compania respinge ferm acuzaţiile defăimătoare, care au adus atingere dreptului la reputaţie şi dreptului la propria imagine, referitoare la falsificarea hărţilor bazinului Văii Corna. Aceste afirmaţii sunt complet nefondate şi calomnioase. Despăgubirile civile solicitate în instanţă sunt absolut simbolice - 100 Ron", se arată în comunicatul RMGC.

Face el rost de o sută de lei.
